Is apparently NOT the way to get that in some brief format.

You might want the version info even if no changes have occurred.
Maybe to help extract info about files at previous versions.

I'm sure there is a handy command that shows a summary in one line or
so including version information, regardless of whether there have
been changes.

Maybe I'm just used to `cvs status' that shows the version at hand.
