I think I was playing around with bookmarks a couple of months ago but
I haven't been using them recently.  There was a .hg/bookmarks file
from October.  I deleted both the bookmarks file and the bookmarks
current and now it works as I expect.

$ ~/software/vcprompt-mq/vcprompt -f %b
default

I think there might be some bug in the bookmarks code for my version
of Mercurial but it's probably not worth worrying about since I am so
many versions behind.
