Subrepo: clone only, no working copy?

Hello,

I have a repository wherein I want to have a subrepo, but only the
repository with all its changesets but no working copy. I started with
cloning my subrepo with the -U option, and the revision in the
.hgsubstate is fully zero-ed (00000....). So far, I think it is
correct.

When another user clones my main repository, an empty folder is
created for my subrepo, but the subrepo itself is not cloned. This
also seems sort of the correct behaviour as I specified revision
0000.... for the working copy state.

Is this scenario possible?
