A Generic Cloud Repository as a Mercurial Repository

A naïve question:     Is there any way to use a generic
online file sharing, or “Cloud Repository” (such as Box Inc.), as
a Mercurial VCS Repository? 
And, if not, why on earth, not? Thanks.
